Afghan Taliban Crackdown on TTP and HGB Sparks Regional Tensions and Border Infiltration Concerns

There have been reports emerging from Kunar and Khost provinces in Afghanistan, where the Afghan Taliban have begun disarming members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group (HGB). Sources indicate that Taliban forces are even arresting those found armed, marking a significant shift in their stance toward these militant groups.

In addition, evacuation orders have been issued for these groups to leave Afghan territory. It appears that the Afghan Taliban has come to realize that their ongoing conflict with Pakistan and neighboring countries is largely driven by these factions, who have used Afghan soil as a base, stalling the country’s development.

The United Nations has repeatedly expressed concern, citing Afghanistan as a haven for global terrorist organizations, including TTP and HGB. These groups are seen as a key obstacle to Afghanistan’s progress and international recognition.

However, TTP and HGB have pushed back, issuing indirect threats via their official platform, “Umar Media,” warning the Afghan Taliban of consequences if disarmament and evacuation actions proceed. TTP has reportedly held internal meetings to strategize and is preparing to move as many fighters as possible into Pakistan before the Taliban launch operations against them.

There is also concern over potential border infiltrations this month, with increased movement expected at the Bajaur and Waziristan regions. Security forces must remain vigilant to prevent these cross-border incursions.
