Revelation of PUBG Game’s Use in Terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Swat/Peshawar: For the first time, it has been revealed that the PUBG game is being used for terrorism activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Terrorists were using the game’s chat feature to communicate and share information in groups.
District Police Officer (DPO) Swat, Dr. Zahid, disclosed this information, stating that while most terrorist organizations use Telegram for communication, this is the first instance of terrorists using PUBG for their activities in Swat. According to Dr. Zahid, three to four terrorists communicated through PUBG, believing that the game’s chat feature is not monitored, allowing them to use this technology to achieve their objectives.
Dr. Zahid further reported that Swat Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully arrested three terrorists involved in the bombing of the Nawikale Banr police post. Weapons, ammunition, and mobile phones used in the attack were recovered. The recovered mobile phones had PUBG installed, and crucial evidence was found through the chat history.
DPO Swat, Dr. Zahidullah, emphasized that the Swat Police are prepared to face any challenge and will not allow the region’s peace to be disrupted. He added that the three arrested terrorists, responsible for the attack on the Banr police post, are providing information that will help prevent future terrorist plots and ensure the safety of the public.
He made these statements while speaking to media representatives at his office in Gul Kada, recounting the bombing of the Nawikale Banr police post on August 28, 2024. The attack, carried out by unidentified terrorists, resulted in the martyrdom of police officer Rehmanullah and injuries to two other officers, Shafiullah and Muhammad Ayaz.
Following the attack, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand, Muhammad Ali Khan, assigned DPO Swat the task of apprehending the suspects. A case was registered against unidentified individuals at the CTD station, and an investigation was launched.
Using technical methods, including CCTV footage and Call Detail Records (CDR), the police traced the suspects and arrested three terrorists: Muhammad Haris, son of Mirajuddin, resident of Hayatabad Nawikale Swat; Burhanullah, son of Muhammad Musa, resident of Sultanabad Nawikale Swat; and Shehzad, son of Hameed Gul, resident of Zarakhail Odigram Swat.
According to the investigative department of KP Police, just as criminals now use technology like internet devices to commit street crimes and robberies with minimal risk of being traced, terrorists have similarly turned to PUBG to secretly pursue their objectives.
