Peshawar – June 29, 2025:
Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa successfully thwarted a major terrorist attack in a high-stakes intelligence-based operation conducted in the Shamshato area of Peshawar.
According to CTD officials, two terrorists affiliated with the Fitna al-Khawarij network were neutralized during the operation. Among them was a suicide bomber who had reportedly crossed over from Afghanistan, along with his local handler. The terrorists were plotting a major attack on a sensitive installation in the province, but timely action by security forces foiled their plans.
The operation was conducted on the basis of credible intelligence. As CTD forces closed in, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a brief exchange. Fortunately, no casualties were reported among the security personnel.
During a subsequent search, authorities recovered a cache of weapons including a suicide vest, submachine guns (SMG), pistols, grenades, and other explosive materials. The recovery also included tactical gear intended for use in a high-impact terrorist strike.
One of the neutralized terrorists was identified as Munir Ahmad, son of Muhammad Gul. Investigations suggest the group was planning coordinated attacks targeting key installations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The successful operation underscores the CTD’s continued commitment to dismantling terrorist infrastructure and preventing cross-border infiltration from Afghanistan. Authorities have reiterated their resolve to hunt down remaining elements of the Fitna al-Khawarij network operating in the region.
